Before You File a Complaint in Canada
If you have any worries about being treated badly at work or staying safe, talk to your company first. First, talk to your manager or supervisor about any worries you have. Explain your concerns clearly and give as much detail and dates as you can. If your company has a team that focuses on employees’ well-being and safety at work.
They can look at the rules and then they have to investigate any problems you told them about and figure out how to fix them according to the law. If you think your problems are not being taken care of, and your company doesn’t have a human resources department or health and safety officer, you can tell Ontario Health and Safety about it directly.
What Happens After an Employee Files Complaint?
An OHSA inspector will look into complaints by visiting the workplace to check the safety and investigate the claims. They’ll also open a file about the complaint. Not every case of harassment will be thoroughly investigated. When they get to the place, the staff might be asked questions, shown around the whole building, and talk to the right people. Then, they will write a report about what they found.
At the moment, they can’t fix everything. The report will have the investigation results, the problems they saw, the solutions they think are needed, and when these solutions must be done. You can make a complaint without giving your name, but if it’s anonymous, the investigation will only check if your employer is following harassment laws.
How To Make Your Complaint
There are many ways to make your report and send it, like using a paper, your computer, or your phone. Once you’ve chosen how you want to send your information, you need to visit the website and get the PDF document. First, you can save the document on your computer.
Then, you can open the file and fill it in. You can submit this online or call 877-202-0008 to talk to a representative. This system is only for reporting problems with health, safety, and harassment. To address issues about your wages, vacation days, work schedule, and time off, you need to fill out the Employment Standards Claim Form.
You can send a complaint about being treated unfairly at work by mail or in person at the closest EEOC office.
You can find the nearest EEOC office by calling 1-800-669-4000 or looking at the EEOC’s list of offices and choosing the one closest to you.

3- Employer’s name, address, and phone number you want to complain about.
4- A short explanation of the thing or things that you think are not fair or are causing someone distress.

Employment Standards
If you have a problem with how much you get paid, the hours you work, or holiday pay, you should talk to Employment Standards or your union representative. You have to file complaints within a certain time limit for a full investigation. We can’t look into concerns that are over two years old.
